Dr Joan Esteva de Sagrera took office as the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy for the period 2013-2017 in a ceremony that took place in the Sala de Juntes of the Rector's Offices at the Historic Building on Thursday 31 October, at 11 a.m. Esteva de Sagrera, who has been the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy since October 2009, was re-elected on the elections held during the last Extraordinary Meeting of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Dr Joan Esteva de Sagrera took office as the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy for the period 2013-2017 in a ceremony that took place in the Sala de Juntes of the Rector's Offices at the Historic Building on Thursday 31 October, at 11 a.m. Esteva de Sagrera, who has been the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy since October 2009, was re-elected on the elections held during the last Extraordinary Meeting of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

The re-elected dean, who was secretary of the Faculty and head of the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology, is expert on the history of pharmacy, pharmaceutical legislation, deontological ethics and bioethics. He got a PhD in Pharmacy with a thesis on Ramon Llull and Arnau de Vilanova. Esteve de Sagrera has studied the relationship between pharmacy and alchemy, and more recently the relationship between pharmacy and art and literature.

Moreover, he manages the Museum of the Catalan Pharmacy, created in 1957 and located at the Faculty, which hosts an excellent collection of books, tools, advertisements and ancient pharmaceutical specialties.

For the new period, governing bodies of the Faculty of Pharmacy are composed by Dr Diego Muñoz-Torrero, from the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic Chemistry, as the vice-dean for Research; Dr Mercè Pallàs, from the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic Chemistry, as the vice-dean for Academic Affairs and Students; Dr Josefa Badia from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Pharmacy), as the vice-dean for Posgraduate and Doctoral Programmes, and Dr M Carmen Escolano, from the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic Chemistry, as the academic secretary of the Faculty.

Among his priorities, Dr Esteva de Sagrera stresses "to maintain teaching and research quality at the Faculty of Pharmacy despite budget cuts; to consolidate the three Bachelor's degrees offered at the Faculty and to set up the double degree in Pharmacy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics; to participate in the reform of the UB Statute in order to improve UB's governance, and to resume the project of the new Faculty of Pharmacy when the economic situation allows it".
