On Thursday 7th February, a new semester of the 26th Musical Season at the University begins, with the performance of the pianist Katia Michel and the cellist Peter Schmidt, who will play works by Pau Casals, Franz Schubert and Sergi Rakhmaninov. The concert takes place in the Paranymph Hall of the Historic Building at 8 p.m.

On Thursday 7th February, a new semester of the 26th Musical Season at the University begins, with the performance of the pianist Katia Michel and the cellist Peter Schmidt, who will play works by Pau Casals, Franz Schubert and Sergi Rakhmaninov. The concert takes place in the Paranymph Hall of the Historic Building at 8 p.m.

Todayʼs evening programme includes Pastorale, by Pau Casals, Sonata ʻArpeggioneʼ in A minor, D. 821, by Schubert, and Sonata for cello and piano in G minor, Op. 19, by Rakhmaninov.

The Catalan-Swiss pianist Katia Michel performs extensively in Europe, the United States, Mexico, Central America, Colombia and Southeast Asia. She has been featured as soloist with many orchestras, including the Swiss Radio and Television Orchestras, the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestras, the Chamber Philharmonic of Bohemia, the Cannes Regional Orchestra, the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, the San Salvador Symphony and the Seville Royal Symphony Orchestra. She participates regularly in prestigious venues and has performed in great auditoriums, such as: the New Yorkʼs Carnegie Hall, the Royal Dublin Society Concert Hall, the Salle des Abeilles in Geneva, the Beethoven Kammermusiksaal in Bonn, the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, the Auditori in Barcelona, the Teatro Monumental in Madrid and the Maestranza Theatre in Seville. She combines her activity as a musician with the lessons she gives at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu (Liceu Conservatoire) and the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Manresa (Manresa Conservatoire). She recently released a solo CD featuring works of Isaac Albeniz for the label Columna Musica, and the Sonata for violin and piano, by Pau Casals, together with the violist Josep Colomé for Klassic Cat. Moreover, she has just recorded the pieces for cello and piano by Pau Casals, realeased by Klassic Cat, with the cellist Peter Schmidt.

The German-American cellist Peter Schmidt plays regularly as a soloist and in chamber orquestres in Europe, the United States, Colombia and Mexico. He participates in International venues and collaborates as a soloist with some orchestras: the New Westfalia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Budweis Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bundeswehr Orchestra and the Munich International Orchestra. In 2007, he received his artistic diploma with honours for his studies led by Wen Sinn Yang at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich. From the winter semester of 2007/08 until the summer of 2010 he was a student of chamber music in the class of the Auryn Quartet at the University of Music in Detmold, where he graduated with special honours. In 2012, he received the prestigious Konzertexamen of the Robert-Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf, where he studied with the professor Gregor Horsch. He combines his activity as a musician with teaching.
