ʻBlue Raiʼ, by the ESCAC graduate Pedro B. Abreu, receives the Audience Award in the Malaga Film Festival

The film Blue Rai, by the deb Pedro B. Abreu, won the Silver Amni Visnaga - Audience Award in the 20th edition of the Malaga Film Festival. The film, competing in the section Zonazine, is the step from short film to feature film for this talent born in the classes of the University School of Cinema and Visual Communication of Catalonia (ESCAC), affiliated school of the University of Barcelona. Produced by ESCAC Films, the film counts with a technical team made by graduates of the School. The award ceremony took place on March 25.

In this film, the director plays with the traditional romance comedy to get closer to a crime delusion. A young man decides to kidnap eight people to get the attention of the girl who just left him. Social networks will turn this romantic criminal into a social phenomenon.

Blue Rai is one of the six films that were produced in the official master degree in Cinematography of ESCAC. The director of the school, Sergi Casamitjana, says this film “proves cinema can be done without great amounts of money”.

Five ESCAC productions in the Malaga Film Festival

The Malaga Film Festival has been an excellent window to show the films made in ESCAC. Apart from Blue Rai, the School brought four other titles. Also born in the master degree in Cinematography, Desde que bailas, by Álvaro Torrelli and Beatriz Osorno was presented in the official section for documentaries. In the official section of short films, there were three films: Lʼhome llop, by Lluís Sellarès; Néboa by Claudia Costafreda, and Laborable, by Alejandro Marín (the latter one is a project made in the third year of the School).

ESCAC Films diffuses all film productions created in ESCAC from its development until its promotion. The aim is to establish bases and to consolidate a kind of production that enables promotion and integration of young talents trained in ESCAC in the cinema and audiovisual industry.
