Professor of Public Health and dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Antoni Trilla, will give the opening lecture of the academic year 2020/2021 of the University of Barcelona. This year is marked by the health emergency situation. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 14, at 12 noon, in the Paranimph of the Historical Building, with a reduced room capacity, and will be offered online, like every year, through the UBtv channel. The UB has held the inauguration of the academic year since the 16th century and it is the oldest ceremony held at the University.

Under the title “Epidemics, pandemics and lessons”, the distinguished epidemiologist Antoni Trilla, consultant at the Catalan Government, at the European Centre for Prevention and Control of Diseases and also at the Spanish Government for the coronavirus pandemic, will analyse the impact of past pandemics, and the evolution of the current health situation, as well as the lessons we can learn from it.

This year, due to the restrictions, there will not be a reception party nor a live choir performance. The event will not hold the traditional bronze medal award to the retired members of the teaching and research staff and administrative and services staff, which will be held in two separate ceremonies, on October 28 and 30, respectively, in the Paranimph.
