Friday 20 April is the deadline for submitting papers for the 7th edition of the Award for Research on Peace, which annually organises the University of Barcelona as part of the PAULA program on peace education. The prize is awarded to research papers written by high school students and aims to promote peace education in high schools and to reinforce the culture of peace.
The prize will be awarded to research papers dealing with any question related to the culture of peace, namely, the knowledge, values and skills that enable it; in other words, the papers that see peace as a social situation that fosters peopleʼs full development and the eradication of violence in all its shapes (war, injustice, violation of human rights, alienation, etc.). Some of the topics that may be studied are international solidarity, human development, sustainability, counter-globalisation, human rights, interculturality or conflict resolution.
An interdisciplinary jury chaired by the rector of the UB, Dr. Dídac Ramírez, and made up entirely of professors of the University will award the prize. In order to select the winning paper, they will take into account the following criteria: linkage to the culture of peace; critical thinking and methodological rigour in the research proceedings; inclusion of the local and global dimensions of the topic; originality of the research, and its contribution to illustrate the culture of peace.
The Award for Research on Peace is annually organised as part of the initiatives of PAULA, a program offered by the Institute of Education Sciences of the UB and the UB Solidarity Foundation and which provides resources to teachers so that they can include peace education in the classroom.
