Supported by the Institute of Catalan Letters and the Casa Joan Fuster, Publicacions i Edicions of the University of Barcelona has just published Joan Fuster. Figura de Temps, a work edited by Antoni Martí Monteverde and Teresa Rosell Nicolàs. The book, which commemorates the 20th anniversary of the death of this distinguished writer, represents “a polyhedral attempt to define literature, history and thought in a decisive age for Catalan culture and European literature”.

The work collects the lectures, reviewed and extended, given during the International Symposium Joan Fuster: Figura de Temps, which took place in the Faculty of Philology of the UB in May 2012. As editors point out: “it is not a book about the minutes of the conference; (...) the symposium was thought as a book to present publicly before being written (...). All the chapters work as a mechanism that joins intellectuality, historic and political dimension and literary appreciation”.

Essayist, historian, literary critic and poet, Joan Fuster was one of the most important intellectuals of the generations emerged after the Civil War and one of the most influential figures in social and cultural life of the Països Catalans (Catalan Countries). He was named member of the Institute for Catalan Studies and he received the Catalan Letters Honorary Award, the Valencian Community Letters Award and the Gold Medal of the Government of Catalonia. He was awarded doctor honoris causa by the UB and the UAB, and named president of the Association of Catalan Language Writers. In 1992, the Alta Distinció of the Government of Valencia was conferred on him posthumously.
