Objectives and competences

The pharmacist and orthopaedic technician are part of a professional health service and help to improve the quality of life at all stages of life and the health conditions of the population. The lifelong learning master's degree in Orthopedics for Pharmacists, organized jointly with the College of Pharmacists of Barcelona, qualifies the pharmacist as a technician responsible for carrying out the adaptation and tailor-made manufacture of orthopedic products (RD 437/2002 of May 10), in an orthopedic centre located inside or outside the community pharmacy.

Objectives

- Master the anatomical, physiological and pathological knowledge related to orthopaedics.
- Design, develop and adapt orthopedic devices.
- Obtain the necessary competence to dispense orthoses, prostheses and other devices.
- Advise the patient throughout the process (measurement, validation, adaptation, follow-up).
- Acquire the necessary knowledge to obtain the operating license whether the center is located inside or outside the community pharmacy.
- Understand and take a critical approach to the literature referred to
to orthopedic products.
- Apply health legislation that affects the orthopedics sector.

Observations:the teaching methodology is flexible, since the student can choose the format of the course that best suits their needs, either face-to-face or hybrid, and in both cases the same theoretical training is ensured (participative and dynamic, either from home through real-time webinars or from the classroom) and opts for face-to-face practical sessions, essential to achieve the training.
