What are MOOCs?

MOOC is an acronym for massive open online course. MOOCs are not merely collections of online materials. They are courses that have structured content (although the structure may not be linear) and include activities for assessing knowledge acquisition.

• Online: because all their content is available via the internet.
• Open: because registration is the only requirement for taking them (although prior knowledge of the subject matter is recommended in some cases).
• Massive: because there is no limit on participant numbers.​​​​​
