Objectives and competences
Medicinal Plants and Health of the Institute for Lifelong Learning (IL3) - University of Barcelona includes the knowledge, rigorous scientific research and the latest trends in phytotherapy, and provides global prestigious training as it gives the participant the tools and competences to distinguish between the different plant-based products on the market, with a concern for quality, efficiency and safety. In addition, it includes the regulations that govern the sector of medicinal plants and particularly stresses their labelling.

Objectives
- To understand the benefits, limitations and risks of plant-based products.
- Acquire the professional competence to recommend and dispense phytotherapy products correctly and to guarantee the user's health and well-being.
- Learn the principal regulations in force in Spain and the European Union.
- Understand the labelling of phytotherapy products.
- Learn the current criteria for the quality, safety and effectiveness of plant-based drugs.
- Understand the characteristics of the main diseases that can be efficiently treated with phytotherapy, on the basis of scientific evidence.
- Learn to distinguish scientific evidence from popular beliefs about phytotherapy, and to learn to distinguish between the different plant-based products on the market, with a concern for quality, efficiency and safety.

Recommended applicant profile
- Pharmacy and parapharmacy assistants.- Professionals who work or who want to work in natural therapy establishments, herbalists, diet and nutrition centres and other related centres.
- Graduates in disciplines outside the health sciences and experimental sciences who have en specific interest in phytotherapy.
Access requirements and conditions
