Objectives and competences

This master's degree follows the European guidelines for the regulation of medicinal products. The programme includes the knowledge and research of specialists from various branches of healthcare related to phytotherapy. In this way, it provides an integrated view of health care and global training that provides students with specific knowledge for the clinical use of medicinal plants under standards of quality, efficacy and safety.

Objectives

- Acquire up-to-date knowledge of plant biology and recognize the principal characteristics of plant-based drugs.
- Learn the principal regulations in force in Spain, the European Union and Latin America.
- Learn the current criteria for the quality, safety and effectiveness of plant-based drugs.
- To learn good manufacturing practices and quality assurance techniques.
- Acquire in-depth knowledge of the main active principles in plant-based drugs and to examine side effects, adverse reactions, contraindications, interactions and toxic effects.
- Know and recognize the knowledge and skills to prescribe, dispense and administer plant-based drugs.
- Understand the features of the principal complaints, to learn how to assess them correctly and to examine the plant-based treatment options.

- Holders of degrees in health sciences: Pharmacy, Biology, Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Biomedicine, Medicine, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Dentistry, Podiatry, Psychology, Veterinary Science and other university degrees in this group.
- University graduates in the area of the experimental sciences: biochemistry, biotechnology, food science and technology, environmental sciences, chemistry and other related degrees.
