Objectives and competences

This course trains nurses in the early recognition and rapid and safe care of the most common urgent neurological pathologies, especially strokes, seizures and acute confusional syndrome, in order to improve patients' prognoses. Through the training, students will learn about the therapeutic options in the acute phase and the organization of coordinated systems for the early care of these patients from experts with extensive experience who currently work in the country's healthcare services. The course counts towards nursing career requirements.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

- To acquire the nursing skills required to detect and provide care rapidly, efficiently and safely in cases of stroke, epileptic fits and acute states of confusion.
- To improve nursing knowledge of cerebrovascular disease, update knowledge on the code stroke protocol and learn to use the RACE scale, a tool that assesses the severity of a stroke and detects an occlusion in the large cerebral vessel.

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
