Objectives and competences

The concept of fetal medicine can be understood in a broader sense as the set of interventions and/or preventive actions used during pregnancy. Fetal medicine specialists work together with other specialists to promote the health and well-being of the mother-fetus pair during pregnancy. They diagnose, provide counselling for and treat fetal complications; collect materials for examinations (such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling); and perform intrauterine procedures to offer the fetus a better prognosis.
