Infection in orthopedic surgery and traumatology is the most severe, feared complication relating to this procedure, particularly in arthroplasty. Prosthetic infection is not just a medical problem, but also has a considerable social and economic impact for healthcare management. In the United States, the average cost of a prosthetic infection has been estimated to be $54,000. The aim of this course is to update knowledge of the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of osteoarticular infection from a medical and a surgical perspective.
