Objectives and competences

This postgraduate course addresses a group of concepts rooted in historical processes and explores a series of instruments for analysing contemporary social reality. The concepts of freedom, property, sovereignty, democracy, revolution... and the instruments of economic theory, gender sociology, constitutionalism, political philosophy, the history of social movements, political ecology... are linked by the same tradition: the republican tradition.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

- To understand the main ideas of republicanism, socialism, anarchism, ecologism, feminism, theory of justice and communal theory.
- To examine capitalism, labour, unionism and traditional social policies, as well as more recent proposals from economic theory, history, sociology and law.
- To examine the most relevant past and current political and social processes in which transformative political projects have been introduced.

Applicant profile and access requirements

Recommended applicant profile

Academic qualification (bachelor's degree, doctoral degree, diploma or pre-EHEA degree). Students who have not completed their bachelor's degree studies can receive a university extension diploma.

In justified cases, students without a university degree may be admitted if they have demonstrated professional and institutional experience. In this case, if they pass the programme they receive a certificate.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
