Objectives and competences

During the course, the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the oral cavity will be explored from both a theoretical and practical point of view. In clinical practice, participants will take biopsies and manage complex clinical situations, while in the surgical field, they will perform simple and complex extractions as well as implantological diagnoses. Workshops are also organized to provide training in the fields of oral medicine and surgery and in research methodology. Students will present at conferences and must complete a research project. Both classes and workshops are taught by professors from the University of Barcelona and external professionals.

Objectives

- To learn to describe, in the field of medicine and surgery signs and symptoms that define the oral state and treatment requirements.
- To develop an understanding of oral diseases, in particular those that require medical or surgical treatment.
- To acquire the knowledge required to plan the most suitable treatment for each patient.
- To understand the general methodological principles of research.
- To acquire the knowledge of basic sciences required in medicine and surgery.
- To take a patient's medical history, perform a clinical examination and order any necessary complementary tests.
- To acquire practical experience in the application of the appropriate medical and surgical treatment for each diagnostic situation.
- To learn to plan and implement research projects.
- To learn to work as part of a team.
- To learn to work with other experts in dentistry and general healthcare.
- To acquire the ethical commitment required to improve individual and collective dental care.
