Objectives and competences

Dentists today play a fundamental role in the early detection of pathologies linked to oral health, such as snoring and sleep apnoea, and can provide a new therapeutic approach through the use of mandibular advancement devices, which complement the existing range of treatment possibilities.
This expert diploma aims to train the dentist to be able to be able to provide evidence-based treatment for patients with sleep breathing disorders (snoring, sleep apnoea) and craniomandibular dysfunction.
As a major part of the learning process, students will provide direct care to patients.

Objectives

-To integrate the knowledge and clinical skills required to assess and treat patients with obstructive sleep apnea using mandibular advancement devices.
-To gain theoretical knowledge and clinical skills required to assess, diagnose and treat patients with craniomandibular dysfunction.
-To acquire the skills required for lifelong learning and the implementation of practices based on scientific evidence.

Observations:the course is one academic year long and is offered on Tuesdays from 2.30 to 8.30 pm. Optionally, one morning a month (Wednesday), students can attend the clinical cases session of the Sleep Unit at Bellvitge Hospital.
