Objectives and competences

This master's degree equips students with the necessary criteria to understand the operation of building structures and to design them efficiently and more safely. The master's degree includes a global view of the integral design of structures in its fundamental aspects, starting with the most common solutions for the calculation and design of foundations and soil containment in basements, to subsequently design and calculate concrete structures, metal or wood. The design of slabs, pillars, beams and other load-bearing elements is also addressed.

Objectives

To learn to design conventional construction structures, which make up 90% of buildings. This refers specifically to two types: apartment blocks and industrial warehouses Reinforced concrete and steel structures and shallow foundations are covered in the course. Simultaneously, a specific part is devoted to the study of seismic-resistant structures.

The focus is international, due to the two areas of regulations that are considered: European (CTE | EAE and Eurocódigos) and US (ASCE-7 | ACI-318).
