Objectives and competences

This master's degree enables students to gain knowledge of the main interactions that can occur between foods and drugs, their mechanisms and their consequences, and elements of criteria for decision-making regarding measures that should be taken in the case of an interaction, considering the magnitude of its clinical effect and the degree of evidence and coherence with the studies that are described.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

- To understand the basic elements and principal objectives of therapeutic intervention criteria and the various therapeutic and preventive strategies for the most prevalent pathologies in our society.
- To understand the main interactions, mechanisms and consequences of mixing food and drugs.
- To establish the criteria to make decisions in relation to the measures to be taken in case of drug interaction, bearing in mind the importance of its clinical effect and the degree of evidence and consistency of the studies that describe those measures.
- To examine interactions between medicinal plants and drugs.
- To examine how the reactions to a drug are monitored for possible side effects in pharmacological treatments, focusing particularly on adverse or unexpected effects related to food interactions.
- To acquire new knowledge to guide the choice of pharmacological courses of treatment adapted to the characteristics of the target population: vegetarians, pregnant women, elderly people, smokers, etc.

Health science graduates: biology, physical activity and sports sciences, nursing, physiotherapy, biomedicine, medicine, human nutrition and dietetics, dentistry, podiatry, psychology, veterinary sciences and other university degrees in this group.
