Objectives and competences
Humanitarian crises involve large-scale health crises. Emergency medical aid is needed to care for people affected by armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters and those excluded from health care. A good knowledge of essential preventive measures as well as the provision of the most basic medical care are of paramount importance.
This course introduces the most essential components in the response to humanitarian emergencies while addressing the diverse range of challenges and dilemmas that arise in such contexts. It also explores how leading humanitarian organizations achieve positive results in reducing mortality, morbidity and suffering.

Recommended applicant profile
- People with basic knowledge of the humanitarian context and global coordination mechanisms (desirable for the basic level of the course). - People with a medical background that will help them understand the medical priorities and clinical definitions in the field, although this is not a mandatory requirement.Access requirements and conditions
