Objectives and competences
This course is structured into two topics:
1) Concepts in (micro)economics and their application in health and healthcare: how markets work, why markets may not function optimally and what are the primary interventions available to correct market failures. The role of equity approaches in decision-making will also be addressed.
2) Health economic assessment: its rationale, its main components, the role of decision models and uncertainty. Students will learn to critically appraise health interventions from an economic evaluation perspective.
