The area of integrative medicine is an emerging field in the health sciences. The integration of the two types of medicine (conventional
Western medicine and traditional medicine) has led universities to invest human and financial capital in researching the impact
that this integration has on health.
The programme provides training in the application of the fundamentals of neuroanatomical and neurophysiological to treat complex pathologies (pain, side effects of
chemotherapy and radiotherapy, conditions specifically affecting women) and for a healthy lifestyle.
No other training with these characteristics is available.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

- To gain a basic understanding of integrative medicine in accordance with that described by the World Health Organization (acupuncture, auriculoacupuncture, mindfulness, nutrition, etc.) in order to incorporate new non-pharmaceutical medical treatments based on scientific evidence.
- To learn the neurophysiological and neuroanatomical bases of acupuncture and its clinical field in the integrated hospital model.
- To learn the relations between the acupuncture points and the peripheral nervous system.
- To review the scientific literature and recommendations of the WHO in which scientific evidence has been documented in relation to the use of acupuncture.
- To be able to apply treatments to pain nerve circuits and know what effect they have on neurotransmitters.
- To be able to resolve clinical cases based on deductions made using basic knowledge of acupuncture.

Recommended applicant profile

Doctors who wish to complement their training in non-
pharmacological treatments and who would like to incorporate neurostimulation into their practice for a more multidisciplinary approach.
For example: doctors who treat patients in chronic pain (pain clinics); primary care doctors; specialists in oncology; specialists in gynaecology and doctors in specializations whose treatments cannot completely alleviate pain.

Observations:consists of nine lectures delivered on line on Saturdays: 13 January, 3 and 24 February, 16 March, 6 and 27 April, 18 May, 8 and 29 June. Active approach using case studies from 9 am to 2 pm; all sessions will be recorded as learning material. A practical part: a seminar will be given in March on positioning, puncture and electro-stimulation. As of April, participants will begin practising the diagnosis and treatment of patients. There are different doctor's surgeries and geographic locations available to meet the needs of doctors from outside of Barcelona. Assessment: continued assessment and the presentation of a clinical case in June. The course provides participants the opportunity to apply evidence-based treatments in their clinical practice and to offer improved care for patients, especially those suffering from pain, cancer, and chronic and functional disorders or conditions specifically affecting women, such as fertility, with the endorsement of international models.
