Objectives and competences

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, adopted in 2006, marked a turning point in the approach to the rights of people with disabilities, which have been addressed from a human rights perspective ever since.

This programme offers an in-depth look at inclusion, fairness and social justice as a social response to create a less aggressive and more humane, less exclusive and more accessible, less arbitrary and more just society.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

- To understand and analyse the factors that determine or facilitate processes of social inclusion and to detect situations of exclusion and isolation that can lead to situations of discrimination on the grounds of disability.
- Detect, diagnose and establish mechanisms to address the different situations of multiple discrimination encountered on a daily basis by women and children with disabilities: intersectional discrimination.
- To raise awareness of attitudes and prejudices of society towards people with disabilities and work on respect.
-To shine a light on the values that people with disabilities bring to society.
- Build and share knowledge among professionals through tools, resources and skills transfer and counter-transfer in the context of disability from the perspective of social and educational interventions.

Applicant profile and access requirements

Recommended applicant profile

- Graduates in the social sciences: Social Work, Social Education, Psychology, Sociology, Education and other fields related to disability.
- Bachelor's degree students who have successfully completed at least 90% of the credits required to pass their bachelor's degree course.
- Students who do not hold a university degree. In this case, they will receive a university extension certificate on completion. These students must provide evidence of professional experience in the social sector, preferably in the field of disability.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
