Objectives and competences

Postgraduate programme in Intervention in Early Care: Early Childhood and Family is a specialized course in the prevention, detection and intervention of all disorders, whether serious and permanent or mild and transitory, that may appear in the child population between 0 and 6 years of age, as well as intervention in the socio-educational and health environment of the child and their family. Resources and strategies are developed to guide and advise the families of these children, accompanying the parents in the upbringing and/or in the process of accepting the specific needs and difficulties of their children.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

- To acquire the training for professional practice in the field of early care.
- To acquire knowledge and therapeutic working strategies with children presenting reductions, disorders or disharmonies in their development or who are in risk of presenting them (whether severe and permanent or mild and temporary disorders).
- At the same time, to acquire resources for working with families and their environment.
- To understand the stages of child development.
- Understand the concept and functions of early care.
- To learn evolutionary theories, diagnostic classifications and tools for diagnostic assessment typical of early care.
-To develop sensitivity in clinical practice and assessment in the process of assessing early childhood.
- To analyse the family as a dynamic system in the context of the child's development.
- To identify warning signs and risk factors associated with children, families and their environment.
- To be able to adapt the form of intervention according to the difficulties of the child, the family and the environment.
-To intervene in each situation in the best possible manner.
- To develop sensitivity in clinical practice and assessment in the process of assessing early childhood.
- To foster a positive therapeutic environment.
- To develop professional sensitivity and adequate use of language when working with people who have disorders or disabilities.

Recommended applicant profile

Psychologists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, social workers, educators, childhood education professionals, neuropediatricians, special education teachers and psychomotor specialists.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
