Objectives and competences

The postgraduate programme in Dog-Assisted Interventions is a specialized training adapted to intervention, health, social and socio-educational contexts from a new perspective: animal-assisted intervention. Animal-assisted interventions aim to accompany the improvement of people's quality of life in the cognitive, emotional, physical and/or social areas. The activities are part of a comprehensive programme in a treatment process that uses the animal's intrinsic values to facilitate the work of the therapist.

Objectives

Address in a comprehensive way animal-assisted interventions, from their conception to practice, as a supporting resource in professional implementation, training professionals to design and develop projects independently in the work environment or as a business unit. In addition, the course addresses the research and production of scientific literature on domestic animal-assisted interventions).

Recommended applicant profile

- Psychologists, pedagogues, social educators, social workers, physiotherapists, nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, early childhood and primary education teachers and veterinarians.
- Likewise, 10% of the places are reserved for professionals from other non-university backgrounds who wish to obtain university extension training.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
