Introduction

Since the 2012-2013 academic year, the Faculty of Law has offered the dual pathway Law-Public Management and Administration. The aim is to offer students a bachelor's degree in Law, complemented by subjects from the bachelor's degree in Public Management and Administration, which provides essential tools to work in public administration and in the management of public organizations, or in the network of associated private companies. In the dual pathway, students will take all of the compulsory and basic training subjects in the bachelor's degree in Law, which will then be validated with the equivalent subjects in the bachelor's degree in Public Management and Administration.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

The double bachelor's degree in Law and Public Management and Administration provides knowledge of the general structure and the fundamental concepts of legal disciplines, and of the economic and financial management of public organizations and human resources. The programme provides the necessary tools to manage public and semi-public organizations from a professional perspective. Students will become familiar with the legal foundations, key legal concepts and legal and administrative procedures relevant to public administration, as well as acquiring a detailed understanding of the functioning of government institutions and how public resources are managed.

Competences

Students of the double degree will acquire the competences linked to each of the programmes: the bachelor's degree in Law and the bachelor's degree in Public Management and Administration. This combined approach gives rise to a series of specific competences:
  • Ability to work as part of a team. 
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills. 
  • Ability to analyse and reflect on the functioning of public administration from a legal perspective.
  • Capacity to produce effective spoken and written communication in the primary languages of use in the two disciplines.
  • Capacity to apply the concepts of law and business in professional practice.
  • Commitment to social responsibility in the exercise of legal and public administration functions, promoting values such as justice, equity and general interest.

Recommended applicant profile

Prospective students of the double bachelor's degree in Law and Public Management and Administration must have an interest in public service as a means of improving the quality of life of citizens and addressing social challenges through law and public management. The degree requires a sensitivity to society and social problems and a vocational interest in provide legal solutions to these problems. Students must be interested in the study of law and the functioning of public institutions and administrations as channels for contributing to the general interest of society. They must have analytical and critical thinking skills for analysing, evaluating and resolving complex problems. They must also be motivated by teamwork and collaboration with other professionals.

Pre-enrolment

Students that have studied abroad and who wish to study at the University of Barcelona may be admitted to EHEA bachelor's degree courses. Procedures for gaining admission will depend on the qualifications held by each applicant.

Placements

Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields.They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.

Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record.  There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 500 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.
