Placements
Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields.They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.
Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record. There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 500 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.

Graduates emerge well-prepared to pursue careers in both the private and public sectors. Specific areas in which companies and institutions require skilled economists and statisticians include the following:
- Economics and finance: financial data analysis and credit, opinion poll research, marketing and sales, competition analysis, consultancy and advisory services and identification of niche markets.
- Industry and services: experimental design, quality control, process and product enhancement, logistics and distribution process optimization, geolocalization of phenomena and people, retail and e-commerce, purchase recommendation, direct marketing, and other related areas.
- Health and life sciences, biohealth and psychology: health, medicine, public health, hospital management and healthcare, pharmaceuticals, animal health, clinical trials, environment, biology, agriculture and marine sciences.
- Public administration: official statistics institutes; sociological, social trend and public opinion study centres; demographic projections; exploitation of land registry data; local administration (smart cities, citizen collaboration and relations with the public); public policy evaluation, and other research areas.
- Academia, teaching and research: secondary education, university teaching and research, lifelong learning, basic research.
- Media and social media: press, radio, television, cinema, research and data journalism. Web analytics is also a key area of employment (visits, visitors, browsing time, new visits, pages per visit, etc.).
