Objectives and competences

The postgraduate course Study and Conservation of Large African Mammals provides training in fieldwork with large African mammals in their natural habitat in the savannah of Kenya. It is comprised of several online seminars on the identification of wildlife, the savannah ecosystem, conservation strategies, monitoring methods (cybertracker, camera traps, identification of tracks, etc.). Bibliographic resources, field guides and tutorials are provided.

Objectives

- To Gain an overview of the main threats faced by large African mammals and the continent?s nature in general. - Train as a future professional in the area of conservation biotechnology. Learn the field techniques and tools that are most commonly used in the study and conservation of wildlife, with a focus on large mammals.
- To train in the recognition, biology, ecology and conservation problems of large mammals in Africa.

Recommended applicant profile

- Degree holders in Experimental Sciences and Mathematics.
- Degree holders in tourism.
- Students who have completed at least 90% of their bachelor's degree studies.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
