Unsustainable management practices and climate change pose threats to soil biodiversity and increase land degradation
Unsustainable management practices and climate change pose threats to soil biodiversity and increase land degradation. The SOILGUARD project, funded by the EU, aims to address knowledge gaps and promote sustainable soil management. It will develop a global standard for assessing soil biodiversity status through a conceptual and analytical framework. The project includes SOILGUARDIANS, a predictive tool linking soil biodiversity, multifunctionality, and wellbeing, aiding stakeholders in transitioning to sustainable management. SOILGUARD will co-create evidence-based conservation recommendations for EU and international policies, supporting Member States' commitments under the Global Soil Partnership to combat the escalating challenges of land degradation and climate change.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101000371.
