Prevention in prediabetic patients of infection’s morbidity following a high fiber and vegetable protein diet
Obesity heightens susceptibility to infections and worsens disease severity, with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) posing additional risks, given its link to overweight and obesity. T2DM is irreversible but preventable, emphasizing the role of nutrition in immune system support. Diets, like the Mediterranean diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fiber, can mitigate inflammation and oxidative stress, reducing T2DM risk. Bioactive compounds, especially polyphenols found in seaweeds, particularly brown seaweeds, are of interest for their potential impact on immunity. A current project aims to investigate the effects of beneficial diets on the immune system of prediabetic patients and their ability to combat infections.
