Mineral resources in the lithosphere of intra-oceanic volcanic arcs: petrogenetic and ore-forming processes
The EU is increasingly concerned about securing unhindered access to mineral raw materials. This project aims to create predictive models and criteria for exploring metals in intra-oceanic volcanic arcs, adopting a mineral system approach. Emphasizing understanding regional geological processes over deposit-specific characteristics, the focus is on four mineral systems with significant scientific, technical, and socio-economic impact: i) ophiolitic chromitite, ii) VMS hosted in ultramafic rocks - VMS hosted in volcanic rocks system, iii) Cu-Au Porphyry - epithermal system, and iv) Ni-Co laterites system. The ultimate goal of this project is to encourage collaboration and knowledge transfer with the industry to promote sustainable mineral resource exploration.
"Mineral resources in the lithosphere of intra-oceanic volcanics arcs: petrogenetic and ore-forming processes" is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities under reference number PID2019-105625RB-C21.
