Mission
FARO's mission is to promote academic, research and knowledge-transfer activities of an interdisciplinary nature in the field of food systems, adopting a systemic approach. It aims to generate positive impacts in terms of sustainability, nutrition, health and well-being, gastronomy, food quality and safety, prosperity, social justice and democracy.
Objectives
FARO seeks to establish itself as a collaborative space for research and action, serving society and creating impact at local, national and international levels. To achieve this, the following aligned activities are pursued:
- Create an open platform for citizens to engage in dialogue and reflection on food systems, their impacts and potential transformations to foster a healthy, prosperous and fair society and a life-sustaining planet.
- Promote, plan and disseminate research, teaching and knowledge transfer in areas related to food systems.
- Position FARO as an international hub for the study and analysis of food systems, their impacts and transformative pathwars for a liveable future.
- Facilitate partnerships with civil society, public entities and private organizations in the field of food systems to drive an inclusive and effective transition towards a sustainable and healthy food system.
- Engage in and host seminars, congresses, courses, educational activities and other events to share and debate scientific evidence and co-produced knowledge.
- Offer scientific and technical consultation in the field of food systems to public, private and social entities. This includes improving policies, interventions and specific programmes, from food strategy development and impact assessments to long-term planning using tools like scenario analysis.
- Create, publish and disseminate scientific works, adapting them for use by specialized audiences and the broader public.
- Conduct communication and awareness-raising initiatives to contribute to the current debate on food systems and enhance public understanding of sustainable and healthy eating practices.
