FARO Organises Its First Symposium on the Future of Food at the University of Barcelona

The Food Action and Research Observatory (FARO) of the University of Barcelona will hold its first symposium on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, titled “Building Livable Futures: Knowledge and Practice for the Right to Food and Agroecological Transitions”. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the UB’s Historic Building at Plaça Universitat.

Recentment, investigadores del grup han participat en la publicació de dos articles que aporten evidències sòlides sobre com la diversificació dels cultius i la incorporació de pràctiques agronòmiques innovadores poden reduir la dependència d’agroquímics, alhora que milloren el control de les males herbes i la productivitat.

Susana Narotzky, nova membre del Consell Científic del Consell Europeu de Recerca (ERC)

Susana Narotzky, professor at the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Barcelona and researcher from the FARO Observatory, has been appointed a member of the Scientific Council of the European Research Council (ERC), effective from 1 January 2026. The term of office will be limited to four years, renewable once.

A study warns of inequalities in healthy eating in Barcelona and proposes urgent measures to guarantee the right to an adequate d

A new report produced within the framework of the Food and Health Poverty in Barcelona – PANIS project reveals significant social, economic and territorial inequalities in access to healthy food in provincial capitals with more than 100,000 inhabitants. The study shows that adherence to the Mediterranean diet—recognised for its cardiovascular, metabolic and mental health benefits—is low or moderate in most urban households, and that structural factors such as income, the gender of the main household provider and the presence of minors in the family household are key determinants.

Researchers Susana Narotzky and Patricia Homs have contributed to the collective volume Sociología rural y de la agricultura: nuevos avances en investigación social de los campos de la globalización agroalimentaria (Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas, CIS) with the chapter “Agricultura y reproducción social: las explotaciones agrarias familiares entre la viabilidad económica y la reproducción de la vida.” The text was written in collaboration with researcher Bibiana Martínez Álvarez from the University of Santiago de Compostela.
