Honoris causa
The University of Barcelona awards the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to outstanding individuals in the academic, scientific, artistic, or cultural fields who are not members of its community. In doing so, they become members and join the Senate of Doctors.
Granting the title of Doctor Honoris Causa means that the University acknowledges the merit of the candidate in terms of their contribution to science, the advancement of knowledge, or cultural and artistic creation; their exemplary influence in their fields of expertise; their scientific and personal relationship with the University; their impact within our cultural sphere; and their respect for and defence of the principles set out in Article 4 of the Statute of the University of Barcelona.
