Healthy life and prevention of new pandemics
Improving the lives of people with rare diseases through citizen science
This citizen science project designed to improve the lives of people with rare diseases through scientific research, inclusion and greater understanding in society aims to:
  • Involve people with rare diseases in research into their own condition. We are investigating faster and more accurate ways of diagnosing rare diseases using facial characteristics.
  • Increase the visibility of rare diseases among patients, associations and in society. We establish links between families to find strategies to deal with common problems.
This initiative is part of a biomedical research project called “Non-invasive facial biomarkers of rare diseases”. There are over seven thousand rare medical conditions in the world, affecting over three hundred million people, nearly a million of them in Spain. Despite their prevalence, however, there are still no treatments or effective diagnostic indicators for most of these diseases.
