Introduction: The Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media is a centre of the University of Barcelona, successor to the Faculty of Library and Documentation Science, which in turn originated from the transformation of the University School of Library and Documentation Science of the University of Barcelona (Decree 226/1999, of July 27). This university school was the successor to the Jordi Rubió i Balaguer University School of Library and Documentation of the Barcelona Provincial Council, integrated into the University of Barcelona (Decree 330/1998, of December 24), heir to the one that the Mancomunitat de Catalonia had founded, in 1915, with the name of Escola Superior de Bibliotecàries. Since 1939, the Escola has been dependent on the Barcelona Provincial Council, and since 1982, the year in which the diploma in Library Science and Documentation was approved by Spain, it has been a centre attached to the University of Barcelona. Its integration into the University was the result of the agreements made official in the integration agreement signed by the Commissioner for Universities and Research of the Catalan Government, by the Barcelona Provincial Council and by the University on July 21, 1997. Since the 2012 - 2013 academic year, it has also incorporated Audiovisual Communication studies, which until then had been taught in the Faculty of Teacher Training. The centre then started hosting different types of studies and the Faculty of Library and Documentation was renamed, in 2019, the Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media by resolution of the Government of Catalonia EMC/2033/2019, of July 18. The Faculty has the Department of Library Science Documentation and Audiovisual Communication, with the knowledge areas of library science and documentation and audiovisual communication.
