Objectives and competences

The University Master's Degree in Mountain Area Management aims to train experts who are prepared to face sustainable management of mountain spaces: capable of providing innovative and viable solutions within current regulatory frameworks and policies, and capable of leading and working in interdisciplinary teams in public bodies and entities, as well as to generate entrepreneurship actions, always with a local and global perspective at the same time.

The master's degree is taught by professors from the five Geography departments of Catalan universities who are specialists in the subjects included. The teaching staff makes all kinds of training materials available to students.

Organization and methodology

TheMaster's Degree in Mountain Area Management, of a professional nature, is one Official Master's Degree  which proposes the specialized training of university postgraduates with capacity:

  • Of specific analysis of the dynamics, potentialities and problems of mountain areas.
  • To make proposals and organise innovative planning and management initiatives for the sustainable development of these spaces, both from the public sphere and from private initiative.

It is an innovative Master in its field of knowledge since there is no training offer specifically aimed at the management of mountain areas throughout the environment.

It is a Master's Degree & nbsp;blended learning of 60 ECTS and can be taken full-time in 1 year, or part-time in 2 years. The face-to-face part is taught in Lleida between the months of October and January, the rest is taught online through the Virtual Campus.

You can also take some subjects of the master independently to obtain the title of"University Specialist in Planning, Management and Entrepreneurship Tools in Mountain Areas". You can find all the information at Continuing Education Centre of the University of Lleida (5 places offered).

The collaboration of the Geography Departments of the five universities offering the master's degree:[nbsp;University of Lleida (coordinator),[nbsp;]Autonomous University of BarcelonaUniversity of GironaUniversity of Barcelona i Rovira i Virgili University0   is a guarantee of quality due to the long academic and research tradition in mountaineering. This collaboration is reinforced thanks to the support of theIDAPA (Institute for the Development and Promotion of the High Pyrenees and Aran).

 

Evaluation

The evaluation is based on the European system, with continuous evaluation, with the presentation of various works and tests throughout the course (exams, individual and group works, exercises, etc.). However, students who request it can take advantage of the single assessment.

 

Each teacher will be able to indicate specific formulas for the evaluation, for more information we recommend consulting the teaching plans belonging to each subject.

First semester MASTERS


4 October to 27 January 

Face-to-face classes in classroom 2.37 of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lleida (Rectorate building)

From Monday to Friday from 4pm to 8pm


Second masters semester

30 January to 15 June

Optional subjects and Final Master's Degree Project that do not require face-to-face attendance, with the exception of Workshops and External Internships.

Final work

It is an individual work applied to a mountain territory on a topic of territorial planning (risk prevention, urban planning,...), economic revitalization plan or business project in a specific mountain area. Depending on the subject chosen by the students, each work will have a tutor specialized in the subject in accordance with the provisions of the study commission of the Master and according to the design, execution, supervision and evaluation criteria established by the aforementioned commission.

The TFM may be oriented to the development of projects and research either at the student's proposal or linked to the institutions and companies that collaborate with the master's degree.

Mobility

There are international mobility options to carry out a study stay at another European university through the Erasmus+  Program or, also, students can take advantage of the Erasmus+ Placement program to do internships abroad.

Tutorial action plan

The master's degree coordination welcomes students in personalized tutorials in order to guide students and answer any doubts that arise prior to enrolment and during the course.

The coordinator of the master's degree in Mountain Area Management is Montserrat Salva Catarineu.

The administrative doubts can be addressed by both the coordinator of the master's degree and the Secretary's Office of Masters and PhD of the center.

The master's degree has links of collaboration with the Student Care Service (SAE), an office that offers all kinds of advice to the student, both academically and professionally. Depending on this collaboration, master's degree students can go to this Service  individually to be advised on different issues, including work topics.

It is advisable to consult the scholarships and grants for university master's students to find out about the requirements, procedures and deadlines for applying for a scholarship or grant.

There are scholarships and grants at any university stage and of all kinds: to do research, to participate in exchange programs, to access summer courses, to expand studies or research abroad, to work as a reader, to do work placements in other countries, etc.
