Formalization of arrival

In order to formalize your arrival at the University of Barcelona, you must contact the Faculty's International Relations Office (ORI) and we will give you an appointment to do so. You must present the following documentation:

  • Document proving that you have been accepted for a temporary stay at the UB (letter or application for acceptance signed by the person responsible for international exchanges at the centre where you will study).
  • Insurance that covers you during your stay at the UB: European health card and accident and repatriation coverage or a private insurance that includes the aforementioned coverage.
  • Documents for enrolment:
    • A photograph.
    • Photocopy of ID or passport (with the original).
    • Photocopy of health card or medical insurance (with coverage for your entire stay) (with the original).
    • Photocopy of repatriation insurance.
We will check your learning agreement and we will provide you with the registration documents: ​​​​​​​
  • Subject registration form.
  • If you are taking subjects from other faculties, a form to request written authorization. Remember that you must complete 51% of the credits at our Faculty. Check out our offer of Bachelor's and master's degrees.
  • If you are taking master's degree subjects, a form to request written authorization from the master's degree coordinator.
Enrolment is carried out at the Secretary's Office of the Faculty of Geography and History, once the documents have been reviewed and are correct.

Every exchange student must take a minimum of 18 credits per semester. You cannot register for the Bachelor's degree final project, the final master's assignment or placements.

You can take a maximum of 49% of the credits at another faculty. To be able to register for credits from other centers, you must obtain written authorization from the International Relations Office (ORI) of the faculty in question.

If you are taking master's degree subjects, you must contact the respective coordinator and request a written approval to take the subjects.

​​​​​​​You cannot take more than 25 credits of master's degree subjects.
 

How to take subjects from another faculty?

As an exchange student at the Faculty of Geography and History, you must take at least 51% of the credits at out Faculty,

You can take subjects from other faculties, as long as you have authorization to do so. The procedure you must follow is:

  • Check the information about the subjects you want to take at the Faculty.
  • Fill in the application (provided at the ORI),
  • Submit the course request to the ORI of the corresponding faculty.
  • Your application will be accepted when the form is returned to you with the signature and stamp of the corresponding office.
  • Attach the form with the authorization when completing the enrolment.

Once you have registered as an exchange student at the University of Barcelona, you will be assigned a NIUB (UB student identification number) and an identifier. This information will appear visible on your registration form and you will need it to create the password to access the Virtual Campus.

​​​​​​​From the Virtual Campus you will have access to information about the subjects you have enrolled in, your academic record and your email.

In order to access for the first time, you must log in, obtain SocUB identification data and complete the required information, which will generate an access code.

After creating the access code, you will be able to enter the Virtual Campus with your ID and password.​​​​​​​

To be able to stay legally in Spain you need to request a study residence permit (TIE). This document authorizes you to remain in Spain for the duration of your studies and, in addition, gives you the possibility of travelling within the European Union and to countries that have signed the free movement of people with Spain or the European Union.
