Placement agreements. Information for companies
Companies and institutions that wish to do so may host students for internships through the signing of an educational cooperation agreement between the Faculty and the organization where the internship will take place. The company or institution may submit an offer during the academic year, detailing the requirements and benefits, as well as the tasks the student will carry out during the internship.
For any questions or administrative inquiries, you can contact the Secretary's Office for Students and Teaching Staff. (Quim Linares | practiques.gih@ub.edu | +34 934 037 727).
Internships are educational activities carried out in companies and institutions that help students acquire the skills necessary for their future professional practice.
They take place throughout the academic year, following the signing of an agreement and the definition of a training project, a document that specifies the internship period, number of hours, schedule, duties, competencies, supervisors, and other relevant details.
For extracurricular internships (those not included in the degree curriculum), the company or institution is required to provide financial compensation of at least €4 gross per hour for undergraduate students (as approved by the Academic Committee on June 28, 2016). For master’s and doctoral students, compensation is not mandatory. An undergraduate student may complete a maximum of 500 hours of extracurricular internships per academic year, and 750 hours if enrolled in a master’s, postgraduate, or doctoral program, with a maximum of 5 hours per day.
Students are covered by school or voluntary insurance, as well as third-party liability insurance.
Since internships are educational in nature, they do not establish an employment relationship.
The internship agreement is signed by the representative of the host organization and the Dean of the Faculty. The agreement includes provisions for the protection of the student’s personal data and the confidentiality of company information.
Each student is assigned a faculty supervisor responsible for monitoring the internship and a company supervisor, who must coordinate with each other during the internship period.
For internships in which a grant or financial aid is provided to the student, the host organization must register the student with the General Social Security Scheme and make the corresponding contributions for the duration of the internship, in accordance with current legislation.
Please refer to the UB's regulations on placements and the Faculty’s protocol for external placements for further information.
All extracurricular placement offers must be processed through GIPE, the platform available on the University of Barcelona website that centralizes all placement offers managed by the UB for its students.
To host a student, you must:
- Access GIPE and click on the option Companies.
- The first time you access the platform, the company or institution must register. Registration requires providing a series of details about the company or institution. All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory. It is very important to remember the email address and password used during registration, as these will be required to log in to the platform.
- In the Preferences section, you must indicate the faculties with which you wish to collaborate, according to the students’ academic profiles. In our case, you must select at least the option Faculty of Geography and History.
- Once registration has been completed, you will receive an email requesting confirmation of your registration.
- After registering, you can publish an offer. You must look for the current extracurricular internship call for the academic year and fill in the required information about the offer (number of positions, remuneration, brief description, hours, schedule, and requirements).
- When you reach the section asking for the degree programs of the students, you should check the boxes corresponding to the programs where you want the offer to appear. This includes undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students.
- The company must then wait to receive the students’ CVs and select the most suitable candidate.
