The University of Barcelona is a leader of university research in Spain.

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences delivers high-quality, prestigious research through the work of its teaching and research staff in around thirty established research groups and by participating in numerous national and European research projects.

The Faculty has its own research support services and organises numerous research conferences throughout the year, delivered by the Faculty's research staff and those from other research centres, with free access for anyone wishing to attend.

Research at the Faculty

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences is one of the most active research centres at the University of Barcelona, as evidenced by the number and quality of its publications in scientific journals and books, research projects and conference presentations.

In addition to basic research focused on a wide variety of disciplines, various applied research lines are also developed, with a clear commitment to innovation and to transferring the results of this research to the productive sectors.

Structure and infrastructure

The structure refers to the organisation of the research system: institutions, groups, teams and coordination mechanisms that guide and manage research activity. By contrast, the infrastructure includes the spaces, laboratories, equipment and technological resources that make the execution of projects possible. Both dimensions, when well integrated, ensure efficient, innovative research of high impact for society.

Research support

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences offers advice and support to research staff at all stages of the research process: from identifying funding opportunities to project management, disseminating results and knowledge transfer. Our team works closely with the University's central services to ensure efficient, accessible and tailored support for each researcher and research group.

Doctoral studies

Doctoral education is the official university training aimed at acquiring the competencies and skills related to scientific research. Doctoral programmes encompass all those training and research activities that enable the award of a doctoral degree through the preparation of a doctoral thesis.

At the University, doctoral studies are organised by the Doctoral School, the faculties and the doctoral programmes. The Doctoral School is the unit responsible for doctoral studies; the faculties organise all administrative procedures and thesis defence processes, and the doctoral programmes are responsible for training activities, the supervision of doctoral candidates and authorising the defence of the thesis.
