Objectives and competences

Presentation

The master's program responds to the growing demand for knowledge and professionals who can address the complexities posed by globalization. It has an explicitly interdisciplinary character, as it combines economic, business, legal, political, and other aspects necessary to understand and manage new realities and the new rules of the game. It is aimed at graduates with initial training in these areas and is also open to other profiles with an interest in the multiple implications of internationalization.

Organization and methodology

The first semester of the master's program is dedicated to compulsory subjects. It is conducted in person, during the afternoon and evening, and is preferably full-time. The number of students in the classroom is limited to a maximum of 35. Classes are theoretical-practical, aimed at ensuring a good level of fundamental transversal content in the economic-business and legal-political fields.

The second semester of the master's program is dedicated to elective subjects, primarily in-person, with a full-time commitment, in afternoon-evening hours (between 14:00 and 22:00). The methodology combines analytical and practical aspects suited to each subject, with lectures and seminars complementing the theoretical-practical classroom sessions.

The third semester of the master's program is dedicated to internships in companies and/or institutions, as well as to the preparation and defense of the Master's Thesis (TFM). The requirements for attendance and dedication are more flexible, depending on the type and content of each internship and TFM.

In any case, the specific details for each subject can be found in the corresponding course syllabi.

Final work

According to the general regulations of the University of Barcelona (UB), as well as the specific regulations of the Faculty of Economics and Business, official master's programs aim for students to acquire advanced, specialized, or multidisciplinary training, oriented towards academic or professional specialization or the promotion of research initiation tasks. These programs must conclude with the preparation and public defense of a master's thesis.

Within this framework, this master's program includes the Master's Thesis course, worth 20 ECTS credits.

The student must undertake a project that can take various forms, such as a business plan for a new company, an innovation plan for a department in an existing company, or the development of research applied to the content acquired during the master's program. The thesis must include personal conclusions that demonstrate critical thinking and personal reflection.

The student must integrate and apply—using a professional, creative, and innovative approach—the competencies acquired throughout the master's program, as well as incorporate specific skills (autonomy, initiative, practical application, etc.).

The thesis is defined as autonomous, although a tutor is assigned to approve the project and provide guidance. Throughout the development of the thesis, the student may meet with the tutor to present progress reports.

The Master's Committee designates the faculty members who will serve as tutors for the master's theses.

The thesis is presented and defended in a public session before a tribunal.

Mobility

The Faculty of Economics and Business has an International Promotion Area that is responsible for managing the faculty's international mobility programs, seeking new agreements, and actively contributing to the internationalization of the center, especially for its students.

In this office, they will guide and assist you with international mobility.

Tutorial action plan

The coordinator organizes general coordination sessions and individualized tutorials upon request from the students.

The master’s program has an informational campus where all important issues of interest to students are communicated: seminars, conferences, exam calendars, professional corporation events where they are invited to participate for free, job offers, etc. There is also an email address for contact (omd.eco@ub.edu) to resolve doubts and provide support to the students.
