Organization and methodology

The Master's in Sociology: Social Transformations and Innovation consists of 90 credits, which are structured over three semesters (one and a half years). Students must complete 45 compulsory credits (including the Master's thesis worth 20 credits) and 45 elective credits.

Students who do not come from a sociology background must take an additional 5 credits of supplementary training.

During the first two semesters, students are required to complete 25 compulsory credits distributed across five subjects and 40 elective credits.

In the third semester, students must choose between the Professional Practice course or the Advanced Seminar (with a minimum of 5 students for it to be taught), both worth 5 credits, in addition to the Master's Thesis (TFM worth 20 credits).

Classes are held Monday to Friday afternoons, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This schedule applies to the first two semesters and is much more flexible for the third semester.

The sessions combine lectures, participatory debates, seminars, round tables, practical workshops, guest lectures from professors from other Spanish or international universities, as well as autonomous tutored student work.

The Master's is supported and involved with several consolidated research groups within the Department of Sociology, part of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Barcelona.

Final work

According to the general regulations of the University of Barcelona (UB), as well as the specific regulations of the Faculty of Economics and Business, official master's programs aim to provide students with advanced, specialized, or multidisciplinary training, focused on academic or professional specialization or on promoting the initiation into research tasks. These programs must conclude with the preparation and public defense of a master's thesis.

Within this framework, this master's program includes the course Master's Thesis, worth 20 ECTS credits.

It consists of an individual and autonomous project that allows the student to integrate and apply the acquired knowledge and competencies in practice.

Mobility

The Faculty of Economics and Business has an International Promotion Area that is responsible for managing the faculty's international mobility programs, seeking new agreements, and actively contributing to the internationalization of the center, especially for its students.

In this office, they will guide and assist you with international mobility.

Tutorial action plan

The coordinator holds general coordination sessions and individual tutorials upon request from students.

The master's program has an informational campus where all important issues of interest to students are communicated: seminars, conferences, exam schedules, professional association events where students are invited to participate for free, job offers, etc. There is also a contact form (https://www.ub.edu/school-sociology/ca/about-us/contact/) to resolve doubts and provide support to students.
