Organization and methodology

General information

Teaching is structured by semesters and, in general, courses are organized into face-to-face activities, directed work activities, and autonomous work activities. The face-to-face sessions consist of lectures by the professor and discussions with students about the subject content and the problems arising from its theoretical conception and practical application. Directed activities aim to develop tasks by students, as well as the review of these tasks.

The Teaching Plan for each course is the document that outlines both the content, the teaching and learning methodologies, and the assessment systems. In general, the teaching methodologies used in the degree include: lectures and presentations, conferences, group work, written assignments, information research, case studies, practical exercises, application activities, problem-solving, project development, simulations, and external internships.

Class schedules are published before the start of classes. First- and second-year classes take place at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Barcelona (UB) in the mornings. Third- and fourth-year classes are held at the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in the afternoons.

Evaluation

Exams for the academic year 2024-25

Below you can access the exam calendar for the whole course sorted by course/semester or grouped by exam date.

The dates and place of review of the exam are appropriately indicated in theVirtual Campus

Evaluation system

The ordinary system of evaluation of the subjects is the continuous evaluation. This evaluative route consists of a series of activities and / or evaluable works throughout the semester, which can be concluded in a final synthesis test. This set of evaluable activities must allow to accredit the achievement of the objectives of the subject included in the teaching plan, both in terms of the competences to be acquired and the skills to be developed, as well as in terms of the theoretical or conceptual knowledge of the subject that the student must achieve and that must allow him to solve the activities applied in the practical aspect.

The student also has the possibility of taking the single assessment under the conditions set by the regulations of the University of Barcelona. The subjects have a single assessment call. But there is the possibility of re-evaluating a subject when it has not been passed initially (either through the continuous evaluation or through the single evaluation). The calendar of final tests (evaluation and re-evaluation) is approved by the Academic Council and published on the teaching website at the beginning of the academic year.

The syllabus of each subject contains all the information related to the evaluation system of each of the modalities.

Final work

The curriculum of the Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Barcelona and the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, stipulates that in order to obtain the degree, students must complete a Final Degree Project (FDP) of 18 ECTS credits.

Through the completion of the FDP, it is assessed whether the student has integrated the knowledge acquired during the degree and whether they have achieved the general and specific competencies required for professional development. Additionally, the student will need to apply a significant part of the training acquired during the degree, promoting its multidisciplinary character and a methodological approach to solving complex problems, while emphasizing organized work and the quality of the generated documents.

The Faculty of Economics and Business has an International Promotion Area that is responsible for managing the Faculty's international mobility programs, seeking new agreements, and actively contributing to the internationalization of the institution, especially for its students.
