Organization and methodology

General information

Teaching is structured by semesters and, in general, the subjects are organized in face-to-face activities, directed work activities and autonomous work activities.

The face-to-face sessions consist of the presentation by the teacher and the debate with the students on the contents of the subject and on the problems derived from its theoretical conception and its practical application. The directed activities pursue the development of activities by the students, as well as their review.

The syllabus of each subject is the document that includes both the contents, teaching and learning methodologies and evaluation systems. In general, the teaching methodologies used in the degree include: master classes and exhibitions, lectures, group work, written work, information research, case studies, practical exercises, application activities, problem solving, project development, simulation and external practices.

Study intensification group

The bachelor's degree in Sociology offers teaching groups addressed tostudents who repeat subjects. These are the so-called Study Intensification Groups. These groups have the following characteristics:

  • Only students who have already enrolled and have not passed that subject can enrol in a GIE group of a subject. For those students who enrol forthird time a subject, it will be mandatory to enrol in these groups. Students enrolling the subject for the second time may choose GIE group or "normal" group.
  • The subjects of the GIE groups will have two hours of face-to-face teaching  a week. The main feature of these groups is that they have a special intensive methodology in the Virtual Campus.
  • GIE groups are identified with the letters(first semester) and Z (second semester).
  • The teaching of these groups will be carried out in the time slot of14:30 to 16:30 hours  so that they are fully compatible with the teaching schedules of the traditional groups, avoiding any overlap.
  • There will be continuous evaluation and attendance is indispensable to follow this continuous evaluation.
  • These groups follow the same teaching plan as traditional groups and will have the same level of requirement  to pass the subject.
