Research at the Faculty

Thanks to the recruitment of talent on an international scale through the Job Market and other competitive calls, the Faculty is characterized by a significant degree of internationalization and a strong potential for academic research production, as well as for attracting funds through competitive research project calls and knowledge transfer activities. The Faculty is firmly committed to open research as a means to increase access to scientific results, maximize social impact, and improve the scientific education of citizens. Every year, the Faculty hosts a large number of international scientific activities, such as seminars, workshops, and conferences. All this positions the Faculty of Economics and Business among prestigious places in various international rankings within the different research areas it encompasses and makes it a global reference center.


Organization and Structure

The academic research of the Faculty of Economics and Business is structured around the Faculty’s Research Committee, which is the body responsible for, among other functions, proposing the Faculty’s priority research lines, organizing research support, coordinating the different research structures and groups of the Faculty, as well as the research activities organized there, and managing the Faculty’s research infrastructures. Additionally, the Faculty’s Research Committee is also responsible for managing the annual research grants, aimed at promoting and recognizing scientific production through annual competitive calls.

    

Support for Research

The Faculty of Economics receives support from the Research Office, which provides general information and manages the economic and administrative aspects of the projects of the Faculty’s researchers, as well as offering administrative support to the Faculty’s Research Committee, and also to the UB School of Economics, UB Business School, and UB School of Sociology, three platforms that centralize and coordinate research in economics, business, and sociology, respectively, along with various postgraduate programmes at the Faculty (research master’s programmes and PhDs) in these three areas.

Doctoral Studies

Doctoral programmes are the official university training aimed at acquiring the competencies and skills related to scientific research. Doctoral programmes encompass all training and research activities that lead to obtaining a doctoral degree through the elaboration of a doctoral thesis.

At the University, doctoral studies are organized by the Doctoral School, the faculties, and the doctoral programs. The Doctoral School is responsible for doctoral studies; the faculties organize all administrative procedures and thesis defense processes, and the doctoral programs are responsible for the training activities, monitoring of doctoral candidates, and authorization of thesis defense.

The Faculty of Economics and Business offers and manages five doctoral programmes, covering its different research areas, characterized by a strong international dimension, and offering advanced and prestigious training. Likewise, the Faculty and its doctoral programs have a strong commitment to the Industrial Doctorates Plan of the Government of Catalonia, aimed at promoting strategic, collaborative, and applied research and its return to society.
