The Faculty

The Faculty of Economics and Business is a leading centre in the studies of economics, business, sociology and statistics.

It is the oldest faculty in Catalonia in this field and continues the tradition of two former faculties: the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, which trained the first graduating class of economists in Catalonia (1954-1959), and the University School of Business Studies, which trained many generations of business graduates since 1850.

These two centres merged in July 2008 and created the current Faculty of Economics and Business.

Organization and structure
We have a dean, vice-deans and a secretary as well as the centre administrator. The Faculty Board and the committees of the Faculty Board, the Department's Governing Board, the academic councils and the coordinating committees of the master’s degrees and doctoral programmes are also part of the Faculty.

The departments are the basic teaching and research units at the University and are specifically responsible for the teaching tasks commended to them by the academic councils. Each department has a director, a secretary and a departmental council formed by its PDI, its PTGAS and a representation of students of the courses in which the departments participate. Some departments are structured in departmental sections.

Administration

The Administration of the Center is the management unit of the administrative and management units for students and the PDI, and the PTGAS that are assigned to the centre administration. The faculty administrator is responsible for the management of the centre and the person assigned by the General Management’s Office.

How the Faculty works
We are a socially responsible institution, we care for people and work to improve our social impact and reduce our environmental impact.

Equality and sustainability, together with social commitment, frame the internal activity of the Faculty. The internal and external communication of the Faculty’s academic life, in teaching, research and transfer, is a central element of accountability to society.

Activities
We carry out activities aimed at enriching the lives of the UB community. As a student, there are activities for you from the very first moment you join the Faculty: at the Open Days, the Employment forum and the Social and Entrepreneurship forum, graduation ceremonies and alumni events.
