Regarding research, there are six priority areas of research: strategy and entrepreneurship, technology and operations management, accounting, finance, marketing and general management.
Strategy and Entrepreneurship
This area focuses on the study of competitiveness within companies. It follows a multidisciplinary research approach, using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to understand how organizations can create and maintain a competitive advantage to achieve long-term success.
Research in this area covers topics such as international business (multinational companies, subsidiaries, international networks, location factors, entry modes, intercultural management, etc.), entrepreneurship (intellectual capital, new business success, women's entrepreneurial initiatives, etc.), business history (businesses in a long-term perspective, the interrelationship of institutional conditions, technology, production factors, demand conditions, gender and culture, etc.), and strategy (corporate decision-making, business environment analysis, strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, etc.).
Technology and Operations Management
This area focuses on managing systems, processes, and networks, using models and innovation to enhance competitiveness. Research includes topics like operations management and strategy, logistics and supply chain management, quality management, technological innovation, open innovation, product development, and measuring innovation efficiency.
Accounting
The accounting area deals with the measurement, processing, and communication of financial information of economic entities, as well as the effects and uses of this information by different agents and users. Research covers a broad range of topics, including financial accounting, management accounting, and auditing. Key themes include agricultural accounting, failure prediction, cost behavior, social and environmental accounting, and revenue management.
Finances
Financial economists study the fair valuation of assets (stocks, bonds, derivatives), the markets in which they are traded, and their use by individuals, corporations, and society at large. At the UB Business School, researchers in this area explore a wide range of financial topics to better understand the methods used in developing theoretical models and empirical testing.
Marketing
This area combines various fundamental disciplines to investigate important management issues, consumer behavior, business behavior, and methods to improve marketing resource distribution. Marketing research spans a variety of topics, from branding to marketing services, including brand value, competitive strategy, consumer behavior (both online and offline), and the use of the latest marketing models and methods to gather data and draw conclusions.
