Quality

The Faculty of Biology's commitment to ensuring the quality of its teaching dates back to the mid-1990s, with the establishment of criteria and the use of indicators, in clear harmony with the evaluation models employed by the European countries with the greatest tradition in institutional assessment.

This way, and through the methodology employed by the Agency for Quality Assessment of the Catalan University System (AQU Catalunya), the Bachelor's degrees in Biology and Biochemistry were first assessed (1998).

Master plan

After the inauguration of the current deanship team on 24 January 2019, an evaluation process was initiated to assess the overall state of the Faculty of Biology with the aim of identifying the main areas for improvement. The results of this evaluation, together with the proposals included in the electoral programme, enabled the definition of the 2023-2027 Master Plan presented to the Faculty Board on 19 December 2023.

The VSMA framework encompasses the evaluation processes for the design, management and continuous improvement of qualifications. IQAS-Biology has several quality processes that regulate the VSMA framework to ensure its quality while meeting regulatory requirements.

Data and indicators

Data and indicators are considered an essential tool for the systematic monitoring of the Faculty's relevant aspects. Their values also form a fundamental basis for defining improvement actions and for their continuous monitoring. Some of these indicators come from external to the Faculty, are public in nature and accessible to all stakeholders.

The creation of a dashboard, understood as a structured set of the data and indicators associated with the management system, aims to rigorously measure the actions undertaken. This tool is key for strategic and operational decision-making, as well as for planning and monitoring continuous improvement processes, while ensuring transparency and accountability to the Faculty's various stakeholders.
