The Faculty

The Faculty of Biology is a leading centre for teaching and research in the life sciences. It aims to work towards preserving life on a sustainable planet.

The Faculty is involved in cutting-edge research projects and, to this end, has access to highly specialized scientific and technical services, experimental fields, research institutes and affiliated centres affiliated. The Faculty and the UB have established networks of universities, laboratories, research centres and companies in Catalonia, Europe and other parts of the world, which form part of the institution’s learning ecosystem. This facilitates mobility and work placements for our students through placements at external institutions and international and national companies, providing a significant boost to their internationalization and professional development.

Organization and structure

The Faculty has a governing body comprising the dean, the vice-deans, the academic secretary and the faculty’s administrator. These roles ensure the coordination and smooth running of all the Faculty’s academic, research and administrative activities. You can contact us with any queries regarding the organization and running of the Faculty. 

The Faculty Board, the Faculty Board’s committees, the Department governing board, the Academic Councils, and the coordinating committees for master’s and doctoral programmes also form part of the University’s governance structure. These collegial bodies ensure the participation of the entire university community in decision-making and in the continuous improvement of the institution. The departments are the basic units of teaching and research at the university and have specific responsibility for the teaching entrusted to them by the academic boards of the various degree programmes.

Administration

The Administration of the centre is the management unit responsible for the administrative and management departments that provide services to students, academic staff, and the technical, management, and administrative and service Staff. The faculty administrator is the head of the unit and acts as a representative of the General Manager’s Office.

Activities
The Faculty hosts talks, mentoring sessions, exhibitions and a wide range of activities. All of these are designed to enrich the lives of members of the UB community and society at large, covering scientific research as well as educational, professional, cultural and social aspects. In addition, we offer a series of initiatives specifically aimed at prospective bachelor’s degree students, such as the Open Day or the course for high school students “What about you? Me, Biochemistry”.

Services

The Faculty supports its research and teaching staff by providing various centres, laboratories, support services and other scientific facilities to facilitate research and teaching. These services are managed directly by the Faculty and are available to the academic community in accordance with established procedures. Furthermore, services and facilities are available to all members of the Faculty, enabling all groups to carry out their university activities effectively.
