Objectives and competences

This short specialization course consists of a set of theoretical-practical seminars selected from among those offered to students in the second year of the master's in Drug Addiction. It is aimed at professionals with extensive experience in drug addiction that makes up for the formal training provided in the first year of the master's programme. It is also suitable for professionals from related fields (mental health, correctional officers, etc.) who wish to acquire practical knowledge applicable to their work, even if they do not work full-time in the field of drugs or addictions. This course is not suitable for recent graduates. It offers modules in both treatment, prevention and harm reduction.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

To acquire the necessary skills to diagnose and treat addictions, especially those caused by psychoactive drugs, with qualifications for harm reduction, with attention to cross-cutting aspects, such as dual pathology, gender perspective, age, sexual orientation and identity, etc. In the case of prevention, acquire knowledge and skills to adapt and apply preventive programs in various areas, such as municipalities, schools, families, health and social institutions, etc.

Recommended applicant profile

University graduates in the fields of health sciences, social sciences or educational sciences.

Experience and knowledge of drug dependency, as participation is required in seminars that will be attended by second-year students in the Master's Degree in Drug Dependencies programme.

Alternatively, professionals in related fields (mental health, prisons, care for the homeless.) who wish to learn about intervention techniques useful for part of the population they work with, but with sufficient basic knowledge of the subject to participate in seminars with students in the second year of the related master's degree.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
