Objectives and competences

The nephrologist plays an important role in Intensive Care Units (ICU), both in the prevention and medical management of acute renal failure (ARF) and in the provision of renal replacement therapy (RTT). The objective of this course is to train students in the management of TRS using continuous and intermittent techniques adapted to the critical patient, as well as in the management of the critical nephrological patient in an intermediate care unit with a nephrological profile.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

Specific objectives:

a) Know the different possible modalities of TRS in the critical patient (continuous and intermittent).

b) Learn how to choose and prescribe the appropriate TRS modality for the critical patient.

c) Know about citrate anticoagulation and be able to monitor its complications.

d) Learn the tools for prescribing intermittent TRS adapted to the critical patient.

e) Learn to perform functional cardiopulmonary ultrasound as a monitor of the critical patient.

f) Learn techniques for monitoring blood volume in TRS.

g) Identify patients at risk of CKD by attending the post-AKI monographic consultation.

h) Acquire a transversal knowledge of the critical patient through rotation through specialty ICUs and attendance at sessions of the critical patient multidisciplinary group.

i) Possibility of participating in research projects.

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
